Troop 2 Proudly Presents

The 32nd Annual Christmas Tree Recycling & Fish Habitat Improvement.

Saturday, January 13, 2024

Since its inception in 1992, Troop 2 has established this annual event as a proud tradition in the City of Chico. Each year our Scouts work with family and friends to collect trees throughout the city. Our routes are designed by the California State University Chico Geographical Information Center (GIC). Many individuals and companies, such as U-Haul and Rental Guys, donate the use of their trucks and trailers for the pick-up routes.

To date, Troop 2 has collected over 30,000 trees and proclaims the second Saturday of every January to be “The Best Day of the Year”!!

Recology delivers the trees to the Department of Water Resources and Butte County Fish and Game Commission to be used as brush piles and shelters in Lake Oroville. The recycled trees make brush piles that are lake-friendly. They provide protection for baby fish and help grow periphyton, a slimey and complex mix of algae, bacteria, and microbes that is a crucial food source for tadpoles and fish that can also absorb certain contaminants.
